<image:title>Focus Areas - E Talleyrand Avenue - Improving a Key Route for Pedestrians in Monroe.</image:title>
<image:caption>E Talleyrand Avenue connects Monroe’s Historic District to Downtown, serving as a key route for pedestrians heading to community hubs like the Union County Public Library, First Presbyterian Church, and the Union County Board of Elections. With more young families moving to the area, there’s an increasing need for safe, accessible walkways to these important destinations. Making the Street Safer for Families. A sidewalk on Talleyrand would improve safety for everyone, especially families with young children. Right now, walking without a sidewalk means dealing with bumpy pavement or sharing the road with vehicles, which can be particularly difficult for parents pushing strollers. A smooth, dedicated sidewalk would make walking to these community locations much easier and more enjoyable. Investing in a sidewalk on E Talleyrand Avenue would enhance both safety and accessibility, helping make Monroe a more walkable, family-friendly community. As our city continues to grow, projects like this will help create a safer, more connected environment for all.</image:caption>

<image:title>Focus Areas - Charles Street - Month-Long Speed Study Highlights Need for Safer Streets.</image:title>
<image:caption>Charles Street (SR 2188) has seen an alarming 56 accidents since 2020 on its short .58-mile stretch, including two incidents with vehicles speeding at 100 mph and another at 90 mph. This dangerous trend poses serious risks to our community, putting families and pedestrians in harm's way—especially considering the street’s 25 mph residential speed limit. That’s 56 accidents in 57 months on a road that barely measures half a mile long. Additionally, while Charles Street has a speed limit of 25mph, a recent speed study conducted showed that an average of 85% of drivers speed down Charles Street daily, with 15% of those speeders going at least 39 mph. Charles Street is maintained by the state, however surrounding streets managed by the City of Monroe have successfully implemented speed cushions to reduce speeds. This proactive approach has proven effective in improving overall safety, highlighting the urgent need for similar measures on Charles Street. View crash report. View speed study.</image:caption>
